A project fostering a circular economy together with Selibon

FUSE Caribbean, together with local entrepreneurs and waste processor Selibon, has started to process plastic waste on a large scale locally and sustainably.

The start of plastic circularity on Bonaire

Bonaire is working towards a circular economy where we recycle and reuse as much waste as possible. A good start has been made with initiatives like recycling centers and reduced single-use plastics. However, 88% of waste in Bonaire is still being dumped. This is not good for the environment and is not sustainable for the future.

That is why FUSE Caribbean, together with local entrepreneurs and waste processor Selibon, has started to process plastic waste on a large scale locally and sustainably. Plastic will become a valuable resource for the island’s economy. This not only contributes to a cleaner Bonaire but also to the creation of jobs and prosperity. Together, we protect Bonaire’s unique identity as a Blue Destination.

Why throw it away, dump or burn it?

For some time now, Selibon and local entrepreneurs have been collecting plastic waste to be processed in the FUSE Kitchen, which is currently being installed on the island. We expect to offer the first recycled building products via Kooyman on Bonaire after the summer of 2024.

Meanwhile, we continue to connect parties to close the loop together: valueless plastic waste from various sources on the island gets a new application locally by transforming and applying it.

By working together, we demonstrate what is possible with plastic waste as a valuable resource; why would you still throw it away, dump it, burn it, or ship it?
